Responsibility to inform and influence...

BXL’s Education Business Exchange Breakfast Event 26th Feb 2010

BXL's second Business Exchange event took place this morning at Pinsent Masons.
The session covered de-mystifying qualifications and in particular the Diplomas. Educators and employers were invited to talk around this subject and how it affects them and beyond this, what other steps can be taken to improve young peoples' employability.

Please click here (qualifications, Diplomas) to access the presentation slides and for those of you who attended please complete the on-line event survey and those attending who are employers please complete the Diploma support form.

BXL's next Education Business Exchange Event will be on 21st May 2010 to register click here.

About Us

BXL Services was formerly known as Birmingham and Solihull Connexions (Services) Limited.

From 1st October 2008, Birmingham City Council and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council became responsible for delivering statutory information, advice and guidance (IAG) services to young people. The local authorities are now providing the Connexions service as part of their integrated youth support services.

Over the last eight years, Birmingham and Solihull Connexions has developed an unrivalled knowledge and expertise in supporting people into sustainable careers and equipping them with life skills.

In 2007, as a result of many of the programmes we delivered, the proportion of young people not in education, employment or training reduced dramatically from 9.8% to 7.3%. This is a key indicator in determining the condition of Birmingham and Solihull’s economy.

BXL is now able to focus on delivering a step change in how we equip the workforce with the knowledge, skills, attitude and aspiration needed to succeed in the 21st century world of work.

Our role is to work with employers, education and government to increase levels of employability and life skills. We know that employers are often frustrated at the level of ‘work readiness’ they see among candidates and can find the education system and government initiatives hard to navigate.

Some young people need greater help in preparing for work once they leave full time education, needing more personalised approaches to equipping them with ‘soft’ skills as well as relevant qualifications.

From our city centre base in Birmingham, a team of around 100 professionals led by Chief Executive John Ling work with employers, education and government to engage young people, as well as advising adults, in preparing for work and equipping them with life skills.
