Responsibility to inform and influence...

BXL’s Education Business Exchange Breakfast Event 26th Feb 2010

BXL's second Business Exchange event took place this morning at Pinsent Masons.
The session covered de-mystifying qualifications and in particular the Diplomas. Educators and employers were invited to talk around this subject and how it affects them and beyond this, what other steps can be taken to improve young peoples' employability.

Please click here (qualifications, Diplomas) to access the presentation slides and for those of you who attended please complete the on-line event survey and those attending who are employers please complete the Diploma support form.

BXL's next Education Business Exchange Event will be on 21st May 2010 to register click here.

In addition to support from teaching staff and parents/carers, your Connexions Personal Adviser can help you make informed choices about the type of study you want to continue with. This could be the traditional GCSEs, vocational courses or other options such as the new Diploma.

Whatever your decision, you need to consider that unskilled work is declining, so today more than ever, leaving school with some form of qualification means you will be more likely to secure a job that in turn will give you the resources to support yourself.

But don't worry if you feel you won't get to Level 2 by the time you reach school leaving age. There are many more employers today who are prepared to support you in achieving the skills you need to do the work that is available.

It's never too early to start preparing for your working life so think about a part time or Saturday job, or maybe volunteering. Anything you do now will build your experience and confidence for when you start work. There are some rules about how many hours you can work if you are still at school - click on Saturday jobs to find out more.
