Volunteering - Supporting Education and Fulfilling Corporate Social Responsibility Policies

Every day we run events at schools and colleges in Birmingham and Solihull to help young people to get ready for work. And the people, who bring these events to life and make them relevant for young people, are volunteers from all areas of business and industry.
Why volunteer? |

The results of a City of London Corporation report on the benefits of volunteering in education confirm what our volunteers have been telling us for many years. The research went beyond the commonly recognised business benefits of volunteering and focused on the improvement in tangible skills that make a difference to business. These include communication skills, ability to help others, adaptability, influencing and negotiating. The best people to tell you why you should volunteer are the volunteers who already work with us.
“Young people get a lot of bad press these days which is largely unfair and that’s something that becomes very obvious as soon as you volunteer. There is nothing like the enthusiasm that young people show at these events and if I’ve made a small difference to some of their perceptions about my industry, then I’ve done a good job.” “I send my team as volunteers for events because it opens their minds up and gives them a new perspective on things. Sometimes, getting away from the office for a few hours is all that people need and the fact that we’re helping in a small way to influence people’s lives, is great.” “Volunteering keeps me in touch with the younger generation and it always amazes me how much I learn from them at these events. It’s very rare that I don’t come away thinking about something new I need to try.” “I’ve learned a lot from my volunteering as I’ve had to very quickly adapt to an environment that I haven’t been in for years – school!" |

Just an hour
If it’s just an hour you have to spare, we can find an event for you to volunteer at. We think this is the best way for you to get a flavour of what it’s like to work with young people in schools and colleges. In just an hour, you can do some practice interviews or tell young people about your job and the industry you work in. Maybe a day If you have more time available and you’d like to get a little bit more involved with the school or college, there are many one day events that are very entertaining and rewarding to be involved with. Further Information For further information on any of the programmes and activities that we can run at your school, please call us on 0845 600 7756 or send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
